Hospice Pet Advocates (HPA) provides pre-planning assistance, education, emergency services and advocacy for pet owners
facing a terminal or life-limiting illness. We also provide education to the larger community about pre-arranging care and disposition of pets should a medical emergency or death occur.
From shelter operations to social media outreach, there are unlimited ways to lend your time and talents to the HPA. A few of the jobs volunteers perform include animal care, shelter maintenance, animal transport, pre-planning assistance, staffing fundraisers, and much more. Pets enrich our lives in so many ways. They are our friends, our family, our beloved companions,
our confidants. Create your own memorial to honor your beloved pets who shared their lives, and the legacy of love they left behind.
In communities with high populations of senior citizens pets outliving their owners can make up half a shelter’s intakes. How can you avoid this heartbreaking situation?
Just a few minutes of simple pre-planning can make all the difference.
Don’t let your beloved companion become a statistic - start planning ahead now to ensure their happy future.
Decide who you’d like the caregiver to be, and talk with them in advance. Have a backup caregiver if possible. Explain that you have someone lined up for care, but
would appreciate their help should that person be unavailable. Make a plan with them to access your pets in your absence.
Call your lawyer and/or estate planner to ask about financial options for your pet. There are a number of ways to provide support to pets and caregivers, including
special wills and trusts.
